KAJANG Municipal Council (MPKj) has three new councillors.

They are Mohd Zulkifli Ridzwan, 48, from PKR; Sangeetha Chandra Mohan, 38, from DAP and Amanah’s Rozeeta Ramli, 51. Their term will end Dec 31,2022.

With the new appointments, MPKj still has one slot to fill to meet its full quota of 24 councillors.

All three were sworn in before MPKj president Datuk Zulkefli Khalid and signed their acknowledgement of acceptance letters and integrity pledge forms at a ceremony in Menara MPKj, Kajang, which was broadcast online.

Zulkifli, who lives in Kajang, is the general manager of a private firm, while Sangeetha, also a Kajang resident, has served as MPKj councillor’s administrative assistant for seven years.

Rozeeta, a Bandar Baru Bangi resident, is a freelance consultant who had previously served as a ministry’s corporate communications head.

The committees and zones of the councillors would be assigned later.

During the meeting, Zulkefli said under MPKj’s Town Services and Health Department’s Operasi Gempur on illegal dumpsites, the number of lorries seized had gone down due to static operations at the entrances of these sites.

“As of Oct 22, eight lorries and one bulldozer were seized, and 16 compounds issued to offenders for illegally dumping rubbish under MPKj’s Rubbish Removal, Collection and Disposal Bylaw 2007.

“The lorries were seized at several locations, including Sungai Balak, Jalan Bukit Raya and Jalan Broga, ” he said, adding that 81 lorries were seized between January and October this year under the operations.

On the dengue situation, Zulkefli said Hulu Langat district ranked second highest in Selangor as of Oct 17.

“The district recorded 8,534 accumulated dengue cases with three deaths.

“There is a 31.6% drop in cases in Hulu Langat this year compared to the same period last year,

with 12,472 cases and 16 deaths recorded during week 42 in 2019, ” he said.

Zulkefli added that there were 10 hotspots out of the 46 outbreak localities under MPKj’s administration.

They are in Kajang constituency (two locations), Sungai Ramal (five), Balakong (two), and Semenyih (one).

MPKj, along with Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ), fall under the Hulu Langat district.

On another development, Zulkefli said the Smart Kiddie team from MPKj’s Development Planning Department won first prize in the Service Delivery Innovation (Improvement) category at the Persada Inovasi Perkhidmatan Awam Selangor 2020.

They won the top spot for their “We Care Online”, an online-based system to apply for change in building use to set up a kindergarten, nursery or care centre.
