Virtual run for gender equality gets good response

THE virtual ‘Run With Flying Colours’ event proved to be a success.

The 3km family fun run which was organised by JCI Pearl drew some 1,000 participants who completed their 3km runs at home or nearby parks.

Some chose a mix of different venues and broke up the run in various segments until they completed the whole distance.

During the event’s virtual closing ceremony on JCI Pearl’s Facebook live streaming, over 4,600 viewers tuned in to enjoy a variety of live programmes.

The programmes included Zumba, musical performances, lucky draws and a ‘Love Kits’ presentation by 111 Love Angel to Friend of Childhood Cancer Northern representatives.

Event organising chairman Anicial Teh said the event held in conjunction with International Women’s Day aimed to pass on the ‘Each for Equal, I for Inclusiveness’ message.

“Th is is the third year JCI Pearl is organising this run.

“This time, due to the Covid- 19 pandemic, we decided to do a virtual run in order to ensure the health and safety of our participants.

“We were glad to still receive 1,000 participants for this year. Our aim was to double up the positive energy and thankfulness and divide our burdens.

“Participants of the event held from Aug 17 to 28 were also required to upload their photos of completion to our JCI Pearl Facebook as well,” she said.

Penang women and family development committee chairman Chong Eng said she hoped JCI Pearl would be able to provide more development opportunities to young women.

“We hope the rights of women will be attended to,” she added.
