Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) has allocated RM10,000 for 50 of its staff who need help with their daily expenses.
The 50 include single mothers, those in the low-income bracket and chronic patients.
MPSJ corporate and strategic management deputy director Azfarizal Abdul Rashid said the council held a ceremony at its headquarters to hand over the funds.
The event was attended by council president Noraini Roslan.
Each recipient received RM200.
The funds were contributed by MPSJ staff through the RM1, 1 Friday Charity Fund project (Projek Tabung Amal RM 1, 1 Jumaat) in support of their colleagues in need.
The total amount collected so far is RM19,535.50.
In addition, MPSJ employees were among 15 volunteers who made 2,160 personal protective equipment (PPE) for medical frontliners.
In a press statement, Azfarizal said 11 MPSJ staff members and four members of the public started the project on April 14.
Noraini mooted the project after the ceremony to hand over antiseptic products on April 7.
She saw that medical staff had to sew their own PPE and this disrupted their daily tasks.
In appreciation of their contributions, the MPSJ Charity Fund Committee gave out RM100 and a certificate of appreciation to all volunteers using allocations from the MPSJ Covid-19 Charity Fund.
“Hopefully, this noble effort can be continued and intensified to help frontliners break the chain of Covid-19,” she said.
