ABOUT 2,500 sets of scrubs have been sent to Xiamen, China, to help in its fight against Covid-19.

The disposable suits worn by medical staff were sent by the Malaysia Huaxia Civilisation Association (MHCA) upon request by the Xiamen Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese.

MHCA honorary adviser Tan Bee Yong said the items were sent to the Red Cross Society in Tong’an before being delivered to hospitals.

“We also included some encouraging poems on the boxes to boost the morale of the medical staff there. We are planning to send them more supplies, ” she said when contacted.

Tan said MHCA, with the help of Poi Lam School Alumnal Association Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, had approached a manufacturer to donate the items.

“MHCA has close relationships with many associations in China.

“We felt that we needed to do something and stand together with the people of China in this time of crisis, ” she said.

Tan said many other Chinese associations in Malaysia have contributed various medical items to different parts of China.

“Selangor-based Xin Dai Welfare Association president Tan Ching Bun has contributed 3,000 disposable bed sheets to some hospitals in Hunan and Fujian provinces, ” she said. — BY IVAN LOH
