Run postponed to second half of 2020

THE inaugural Experience Penang International Coastal Run 2020 scheduled for March 15 has been postponed due to concerns about the novel coronavirus.

Penang tourism development, arts, culture and heritage committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said his office decided to defer the event to the second half of the year after receiving feedback from concerned runners.

“We received many requests for the event to be rescheduled.

“Many foreigners registered for the run and we want to ensure a safe and conducive environment for everyone, ” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

He said the new date would be announced when the health situation improves.

“The participants can check our Facebook event page for the latest updates, ” he said.

The event was crafted to capture the untapped dynamism of Penang.

It consists of three categories – 11.5km and 5km fun runs for individuals and a 5km family fun run.

The scenic run will start and finish at Persiaran Bayan Indah, taking runners along the coastal route towards the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge before looping back to the starting point.

Participants will get a T-shirt, goodie bag, finisher’s medal, e-certificate and refreshments.
