CNY video offers timely message

CHINESE New Year is a festival that is rich with traditions and symbolism.With this in mind, Watsons unveiled a video to reflect the importance of respecting and keeping up with traditions besides bridging the gap between the older and younger generations while encouraging all to appreciate each other as well as stay trendy and beautiful during the celebration.

The festive video was launched at HGH Convention Centre in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur, with a packed audience comprising Watsons’ business partners, celebrity friends, its ambassadors, Elite card members, the cast and media.

Watsons Malaysia managing director Caryn Loh said Chinese New Year was a time where traditional values should not be forgotten and it was important that these values should be carried on to the next generation.

“Generation gaps are very common and we should take this opportunity to bridge that gap, by understanding and respecting the differences of each generation.”

She said the #HappyBeautifulYear 2020 video was produced for this year’s Chinese New Year campaign to promote understanding and bonding between generations in a family by delivering underlying messages in a comedic and musical style.

She urged each generation to respect the other and keep the traditions but added that it was just as important to stay on trend at all times.In keeping with trends, Loh said Watsons was offering various promotions and sales under this year’s #HappyBeautifulYear festive campaign.

She said there were more than RM2,888,888 worth of prizes, including 118 Samsung gadgets, to be won by Watsons cardmembers from now until Feb 3.

Among the goodies that members can look out for this Chinese New Year are limited-edition Watsons ang pow packets and RM388 dining reward vouchers with a minimum spend of RM80 at any Watsons store, online or via its mobile app.

Shoppers can also receive RM8 cashback with a minimum spend of RM60 via Touch N’ Go’s e-wallet.

In addition, customers can take part in the AR Selfie contest #HappyBeautifulYear and win a total of RM8,888 worth of Watsons points.

Meanwhile, Watsons Elite members stand a chance of getting a Watsons Limited-Edition Yee Sang plate with minimum purchase of RM288.

“We have a lot of promotions and offers for our customers, including a celebration sale of up to 50%, ” said Loh, adding that customers could get details on Watsons’ website.

In his speech, Watsons Malaysia customer director Danny Hoh said this campaign was awaited by many Malaysians who were looking forward to offers from various brands.

During the #HappyBeautifulYear 2020 grand launch, guests were treated to spectacular lion dance performances accompanied by the “God of Fortune” who presented a Prosperity Plate to Loh, to mark the occasion. The audience also had a chance to preview a behind-the-scenes piece on the festive video production.

Attendees enjoyed music provided by a live band, partook in a grand lou sang that preceded dinner and chatted with Watsons’ celebrity friends. The night ended with a lucky individual walking away with a Samsung Note 10 in the best AR Selfie contest.

Guests also mingled while enjoying offerings at the numerous food stations, namely Kuih Kapit, Muah Chee, Popcorn and Ice-Cream throughout the event.
