MOTORISTS travelling to the island using the Penang Bridge had a pleasant surprise when they received stickers bearing the words ‘Visit Truly Asia Malaysia 2020’.
Penang tourism development, arts, culture and heritage committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said around 500 car stickers were given away at the Penang Bridge toll plaza in Prai on New Year’s day.
He said Tourism Malaysia kicked off the highly anticipated Visit Malaysia 2020 (VM2020) campaign on the first day of the year with a special reception at major entry points to welcome domestic and international tourists as a symbolic gesture indicating the commencement of the campaign.
He said 1,000 goodie bags were given earlier to the first batch of international and domestic tourists who arrived at the Penang International Airport before the campaign team proceeded to the Penang Bridge toll plaza.
Both the venues were chosen for the welcome reception.
He said similar welcome receptions were held concurrently at 22 entry points throughout the country.
“Apart from welcoming tourists to Malaysia on the first day of 2020, the special reception at the airport was intended to spread the excitement of Visit Malaysia 2020 and Experience Penang campaign.
“The welcome reception was also made possible with the support of Penang government, Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad (MAHB) and Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) which joined in the celebration at the major entry points by providing full support and contributions in the preparation of the event as well as special tokens for tourists, ” he added.
To spice up the celebratory mood, Tourism Malaysia with Penang Global Tourism and Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad came together to promote the Visit Malaysia Year 2020 (VM2020) and Experience Penang Year 2020 (EPY2020) through the display of advertisements at the Penang International Airport.
Yeoh spoke to reporters after handing the car stickers to the motorists at the Penang Bridge toll plaza on Jan 1.
Also present were Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry Penang director Jonathan Freddy P. Bagang, Penang Global Tourism chief executive officer Ooi Chok Yan and Tourism Malaysia northern region director Ahmad Husni Ahmad Basri.
