Intuition – a visual art exhibition

Sharina Shahrin.

SHARINA Shahrin, Amani Azlin and Dhan Illiani Yusof come together in Intuition, an exhibition that highlights the introspective nature of themselves and their processes through their work.

This exhibition, which explores themes of femininity and identity, kick-starts The Incubator – a new art exhibition and project space at ZOO, Atria Shopping Gallery in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

Sharina’s work refers to her process of self-development through abstraction with a conscientious sense of womanhood, and self reflection permeating through each art work.

Within Sharina’s work, expression has always been an integral part of her introspective process. Never premeditating her artwork, what she creates are dictated by her emotional state. The spontaneity of creating in this approach allows her to respond to her own psychology with immediate intuition.

Intuition, like identity, is multi-faceted. Dhan Illiani’s artwork dives into various facets of identity through conceptual photography, digital-manipulation, collage and embellishment.

Her work is an observation of herself from a second-hand point of view – narrating the struggles and growth in being female, exploring the role of alter egos, and various ways the female energy can effect change is prominent in the artist’s work.

Contrasting a view from the outside, Amani takes on the challenges of sitting in the driver’s seat – exploring human thinking and being throughout her photography, often cited for giving “lost in thought” experiences to her photographed subjects, as her works are extremely anthropological.

A strong narrative is present in the self-curation of her photographs, often forcing a viewer to reflect on their own intuitive understandings of the work allowing both her and the viewer to experience a haze of self-discovery.

Ultimately Sharina, Amani and Dhan Illiani have come together to showcase artwork that is bold in representing their own identities – artwork that often establishes a deeper and more tender relationship with the artists than they have sought to establish with themselves.

The exhibition will be held at The Incubator at Zoo, G.31 Ground Floor, Atria Shopping Gallery, Petaling Jaya.

The exhibition will mark the launch of The Incubator, a new 720sqft arts exhibition and project space with hopes of providing artists with opportunities to showcase new and exciting work.

Intuition runs until Aug 11 (daily 10am-10pm). For more information, contact Ophelia (+603-77322715/
