IN THE pursuit of raising standards of education, Smart Reader Worldwide inked two significant memorandums of understanding (MoU) at its headquarters in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur.
The MoU with Eshia & Associates as representatives of the Educational Testing Service (ETS) is aimed at raising English proficiency among Smart Reader students.
“Through the assessment tools provided by ETS, we will be able to objectively measure what students know and can do, reduce the achievement gaps and ensure all learners are prepared to be successful.
“Together with the Smart Reader English programme, we believe we will be able to reach greater heights in English proficiency among our students,” said Smart Reader Worldwide executive director Keefe Ong.
These tools will be available for participants of all ages, from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) programmes for students as young as eight years old to the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) programme for working adults.
The second MoU sees Azman Syab Alias, better known as PU Azman, as the new face of the Smart Reader Kids Islamic programme.
“The appointment of PU Azman is a stepping stone for Smart Reader Worldwide in creating more awareness of the importance of Islamic education from a young age.
“His broad knowledge in Islamic studies as well as his charismatic personality means that he is a perfect fit for us.
“He will be giving his input and advice in terms of programme development to further enhance the programme,” said Smart Reader Worldwide executive director Kevan Ong.
The Smart Reader Kids Islamic programme has been carefully curated and developed by its panel of writers along with experienced experts from Masjid Negara, with Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail as the royal patron.
It is a comprehensive curriculum that encompasses the main components of Islamic teaching.
Smart Reader Worldwide currently has 300 centres nationwide with a presence in South-East Asia, Australia and the Middle East.
“We continue to explore potential expansions in Malaysia and in foreign countries.
“Through these two partnerships, I foresee more opportunities for us to expand into suitable regions,” said Kevan.
Smart Reader Worldwide will organise its annual CSR event “Cyclelah” on Oct 20 in the Kuala Lumpur city centre.
Besides promoting healthy living, the event is also to raise funds for the National One Child One Hope Education Scholarship Programme, an initiative by Smart Reader Worldwide that gives underprivileged children access to quality preschool education.
Since 2008, the programme has funded the early education of more than 600 underprivileged children nationwide.
