Restaurant spreads wings to Penang, to open two more branches next year

For Datuk Seri Haniffa Shaik Mohamed, this was a rare chance when Minister Lim Guan Eng scooped some briyani rice onto a plate, added a piece of fried chicken and poured some dalca on it before stretching out the plate towards him.

“I quickly stepped forward and happily received the plate. This is the first time I am being served by a minister and it feels great,” said the excited 63-year-old at the opening of Q Bistro in Gurney Drive, George Town, on Monday.

Haniffa, who is chairman of Malconstrukt Sdn Bhd, was among several hundred guests at the eatery’s official opening.

After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Lim was seen enjoying a sumptuous meal before heading off to the Penang High Court.

Q Bistro owner Riyasutin Mohammed Dulkif (pic) said the branch in Gurney Drive was their first one outside Klang Valley and the 14th branch in Malaysia.

“We will be opening two more branches in Penang by next year,” he told a press conference at the premises.

The restaurant offers authentic nasi kandar, Chinese, Malay, Thai, North and South Indian food.

For its opening promotion, Q Bistro is offering all Penangites a 10% discount on all food and beverages this week until Sunday.

The branch is open from 7am to 12am daily.
