Other than paintings, wooden art and sculptures were also displayed at ArtEDecor 2019.
THE Second Art & Decor (ArtEDecor 2019) exhibition was held for four days at Matrade Exhibition and Convention Centre (MECC) in Kuala Lumpur.
It was a platform to promote the work of 80 local artists comprising well-known and emerging artists including Lim Anuar, Ibnoo Jalil, Artjamila, Alice Loo, Zainol Ariffin Mustafa Alfandi and Aris Aziz.
The event was launched by Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry deputy secretary-general Datuk Yean Yoke Heng.
“This art exhibition gives local artists an excellent platform to showcase and expand their artistic work and will take local art to a higher level as well as help to build art tourism in Malaysia,” Yean said.
ArtEDecor 2019 was held simultaneously with the Malaysia International Furniture Fair 2019 at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) and Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec).
The artists’ representative Ariz thanked the organiser for giving an opportunity to the artists to showcase their artwork.
“These art pieces are expressions of the artists.
“We cannot choose one piece as our favourite because all of them contain a personal message from the (respective) artist,” Ariz said.
Loo highlighted her sculptures at the exhibition.
She said every sculpture she created contained a different meaning and story.
“The five sculptures represent races in Malaysia comprising Malay, Chinese, Indian, Kadazan and Iban, and it is based on my childhood story where I am friends with everyone regardless of their race,” she said.
Visitors at the exhibition had the opportunity to share their perspective on art and enjoyed demonstrations, live-drawings, workshops, talks and seminars.
