KL mayor launches e-bazar portal to cut red tape over allocation of Ramadan bazaar lots

The festive bazaars in Jalan Masjid India are usually held leading up to Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Deepavali.

KUALA LUMPUR mayor Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan has launched the DBKL e-bazar portal in a move to cut red tape and political interference in the allocation of Ramadan bazaar lots.

Starting Friday (Feb 15), traders can register to apply at the website at elesen.dbkl.gov.my/ebazar.

The move will simplify the application and payment for bazaar licences.

Applications are open until March 16. Qualified individuals must register first before they can apply for the lots.

Applicants will then undergo a balloting process from March 27-30.

Successful applicants can check their status from April 8 onwards.

"We will be organising and running the bazaar directly with the traders from now onwards.

"No more third party involvement from NGOs, associations and political parties.

"Every application is made by individual traders," Nor Hisham said on Thursday (Feb 14).

He added that if the e-bazaar system proves to be successful, it will continue to be used for other festivals such as Deepavali and Chinese New Year.

The decision comes following complaints of monopoly by certain groups as well as middlemen interfering with the bazaar lots allotment in the past.

This year, there will be 57 bazaar locations with 4,430 trading lots.

Lot sizes are divided into category A - for Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman (canopy size 20 x 20) - and category B - only in Kuala Lumpur (canopy size 8x8).

Bazaar operations will start from May 6 to June 4 (29 days) beginning 3pm until 8pm, with Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman being the exception.

Its operation hours are from 10am to 10pm.

To facilitate those who may have trouble with online application, DBKL can be contacted at the following numbers: 03-2028 2537/2538/2441/2621
