STAGE performances and an inspirational talk set the mood for the celebration marking the 93rd birthday of Sri Sathya Sai Baba in Penang.
More than 800 people attended the event which saw dances by schoolchildren, a drama by members and speeches from representatives of the Sri Sathya Sai organisation at Dewan Sri Pinang.
Organising chairman L. Saravanan said the event was in honour of Sathya Sai Baba’s birthday on Nov 23, 1926.
“His inspirational life, teachings and guidance have drawn the attention of millions throughout the world.
“Every year, the anniversary of his birth is celebrated,” he said.
Saravanan said Penang brought the celebration to greater heights this year with more than 200 devotees entertaining the crowd with stage performances.
Prof Dr Suresh Govind delivered a talk entitled “How to lead a happy, successful and stress-free life” during the event.
“Just because someone has a big house and fancy car, does that mean he or she is happy?
“It’s important for us to redefine society’s definition of happiness,” he said.
Spiritual leader Sathya Sai Baba’s life and messages inspired millions of followers throughout the world. He died in 2011 at age 85.
He was revered as the reincarnation of Sai Baba of Shirdi who died in 1918 and whose teachings were an eclectic blend of Hindu and Muslim beliefs.
