SAY Ignite 2018, a sustainable initiative by Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to celebrate and ignite youths through creative content and social activities, was held at Taman Tasik Shah Alam.
In keeping with its principle of inclusiveness, youths of different abilities also joined in the movement.
Selangor Youth Community (SAY) senior manager Dr Mohd Zulikhwan Ayub said the NGOs which participated in the event were not big organisations, but they formed the grassroots community movement.
During the event, SAY entered The Malaysia Book of Records with its longest flower painting on a canvas sized 20m by 1.9m, witnessed by Tengku Amir.
“The cycling performance we see today will also be performing in Germany soon. SAY Ignite provided the platform to show off their talent to the public,” he said.
Mohd Zulikhwan said SAY aimed to put Taman Tasik Shah Alam in the limelight this year.
“We started the movement two months ago with Pesta Kechil and it will be an ongoing affair held once a month for the next eight months.
“We have also upgraded the park benches and replaced some normal bins with recycling bins.
“The underutilised tunnel has been given a facelift and visitors are now greeted by a mural of huge orchids as they walk through,” he added.
Visitors also did not miss the opportunity to snap a photo with Tengku Amir.
Some of the activities held at SAY Ignite 2018 included an art showcase, kayak race, introduction to sailing classes, football, poetry recital and forums.
Visitors also witnessed a live debate with the motion “The rural youth in Malaysia should remain in their hometowns for their economic and career development, as opposed to seeking opportunities in and migrating to cities” by the fourth Best Speaker in the World and the Best Performing Malaysian Speaker at the World Universities Debating Championship, Mifzal Mohammed.
One of the interesting forums, Beyond Limits, included a forum by Malaysia’s first disabled person (OKU) to reach the Everest Base Camp, Azrul Khan Hasrullah, who was born without legs, and Malaysian blind singer Azmi.
It also featured performances by Malaysian singer, host and actor Muhammad Alif Mohd Satar, also known as Alif Satar and rising singer Ismail Izzani.
