Despite DBKL's discount offer, motorists still owe it RM4mil in summonses

MOTORIST still owe a staggering RM4mil in outstanding summonses to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) as of Sept 25.

This is despite DBKL offering discounts last month to errant motorists if they settled their traffic summonses before Sept 30.

According to DBKL Corporate Planning Department director Khairul Azmir Ahmad, after the offer was announced, City Hall managed to collect a total of RM3,215,100 between Sept 1 and Sept 25, from a total of 104,646 summonses that were settled.

There are just a few days left for motorists to take up DBKL's offer.

“To those who want to avoid being hauled to court and blacklisted by the Road Transport Department (JPJ), you have until the end of this month to settle your fines," he said.

DBKL is offering steep discounts to motorists with a flat rate of RM20 for motorcycles offences, RM30 for cars, MPVs, vans, lorries, 4WDs and SUVs, and RM50 for heavy vehicles such as buses, tractors, large lorries, cranes and trailers.

The discount is only applicable for wrongful parking offences at metered parking spots and for summonses issued by DBKL.

Khairul added that offences that had already been blacklisted or were currently in the courts or where an arrest warrant had been issued did not qualify for the special discount.

Motorists can settle their fines via DBKL payment counters, Pos Malaysia branches nationwide, DBKL payment kiosks, www.myeg.com or the DBKL Mobis app that can be downloaded from the Google Playstore or Apple App Store.
