The Samarkand foursome of (from left) Rama Lohan, Sujesh, Martin and Rudy will take to the stage again two decades after their first show.

TWENTY years after getting together to annoy the neighbours, the original line-up of progressive rock hopefuls Samarkand is back together.

The band features N. Rama Lohan (guitars/vocals), Sujesh Pavithran (bass/lead vocals), Martin Vengadesan (keyboards/lead vocals) and Rudolf Frank (drums).

Samarkand has been on hiatus for many years while its various members have been involved in other groups such as Square Circles, Cats In Love, AL’ouest and The Stalemate Factor.

After reconnecting last year, they decided to play a series of shows in celebration of the group’s debut performance in August 1998.

They will be playing a selection of retro psychedelic and progressive material from their mini-album Spinning In Infinity as well as covers of tunes by The Doors, Grand Funk Railroad and Black Sabbath.

The band will be getting together at the following dates and venues:

Aug 24: Merdekarya, 352 (First Floor), Jalan 5/57, Bukit Gasing, PJ. Tel: 016-207 1553

Aug 25: Gaslight Cafe, 15, Plaza Damansara, Jalan Medan Setia 1, Bukit Damansara, KL. Tel: 03-2011 4047

Aug 26: Jazz Ampang 103, 103, Persiaran Desa Ampang 4, Taman Seri Ampang, Ampang. Tel: 018-777 4033
