Barisan Nasional’s candidate for the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary seat Adnan Seman, a lawyer, vows to set up a legal aid service centre for the people here if he is elected.
He said the centre would have a team of volunteers to provide free legal advice, and there would also be a fund to help the needy pay legal charges.
On top of that, he wants to improve the general welfare of constituents with an emphasis on education.
“I will initiate this programme called ‘One Graduate for One Graduate’ (1 Graduan Melahirkan 1 Graduan) which mobilises the relevant parties including schools, parent-teacher associations and graduates to guide the younger batches to excel in studies and thereafter, contribute to society,” he said after a walkabout at Sri Labuan public flats.
Noting that Kuala Lumpur was developing rapidly, he promised to ensure that with every development taking place in this constituency, the welfare of the people would be looked into first and foremost.
Adnan, who is Persiaran Kilang Umno Youth chief and a local in Bandar Tun Razak, said he believed being the youngest of all three contenders for the seat would appeal to the youth, which comprised 50% of the electorate, as he understood the issues they faced.
On being fielded at the 11th hour because Bandar Tun Razak Umno chief Datuk Rizalman Mokhtar was earlier widely speculated to be the candidate, Adnan said it was indeed sudden for him but he took it in his stride as he wanted to serve the community.
“It was an abrupt decision that will affect my life as a lawyer, but it is also a golden opportunity given to me because if I am elected, I can contribute back to the place where I was brought up in.
“The first thing I did was to ensure that the party grassroots accepted me as they accepted Datuk Rizalman, who is a hardworking and charismatic leader.
“So far, we are working hand-in-hand and I am also grateful for the support from MCA,” he said, adding that he was informed of his candidacy only a week before he received the official appointment letter.
Bandar Tun Razak is traditionally an MCA seat and is contested by Umno for GE14 under a seat swap arrangement.
