BARISAN Nasional’s first female candidate in Shah Alam, Jumaeah Masdi, is relying on her motherly instincts to reach out to the electorate.
The N40 Kota Anggerik candidate said being a mother would help her campaign to win over women voters in particular.
“It is easier for mothers to reach out to people regardless (of whether they are) male or female.
"The approach is different from my male challengers, but I am confident of my way too,” said Jumaeah.
The mother of three has begun her campaign and usually meets residents of Kota Anggerik at the markets in the morning.
She said it was the best place to meet people to get a better understanding of their lives and the troubles that need to be addressed.
“I prefer this because it is a great way to talk to people personally. It is a more approachable method that allows people to walk up to me without hesitation,” she added.
Jumaeah said she also enjoyed talking to traders, who were great source of information, thanks to their interaction with various people on a daily basis at the market.
Jumaeh is a town planner who has lived in Shah Alam since her University Teknologi Mara (UiTM) days in Section 7.
Drawing on her experience as a town planner, she hopes to create a holistic Shah Alam that looks at the wellbeing of its residents in the long run.
“Shah Alam does not need much development. As a planner, I feel we need more infrastructure for its people, like a halfway home for the elderly, a religious class centre for children or parks for families and more,” she said.
