MELAKA: The Legal Aid sub-committee of the Melaka Bar successfully organised a Law Awareness and Legal Aid Campaign at a hypermarket in Bachang Baru Industrial estate in Batu Berendam, here.

The campaign has been an ongoing annual project of the Melaka Bar committee to raise legal awareness among the public so that they would be aware of the relevant laws in Malaysia, especially laws concerning their rights and liberties.

The two-day event also saw the public consulting lawyers from the Melaka Bar who had volunteered to give legal advice without any consultation fee.

A total of 29 volunteer lawyers provided advice on various topics including criminal law (advice on arrest, remand and charges); civil law (family matters, wills, probate and administration, small estates distribution, commercial disputes and banking matters) as well as Syariah Law.

Also present were Melaka Bar committee chairman Jaspal Singh Gill and Melaka Bar Council representative Nitin Kumar Gordhan.
