A Ramadan buffet without bubur lambuk seems odd, as the spiced porridge treat is synonymous with the fasting month.
But The Eatery wanted to stand out from the crowd by focusing on less common dishes.
Four Points by Sheraton Puchong executive chef Lai Jian Wei said its “Santapan Warisan Ramadan Buffet”, developed with senior chef de partie Mohd Aris Mohd Daim and chef de cuisine Sharul Ashraff Azaman, aimed to “bring out dishes that people do not often see”.
“Bubur lambuk is already available at most places.
“We did not want to repeat this standard lineup,” said Lai.
Instead, this buffet incorporates dishes from seven states – think Nasi Briyani Gam from Johor, Daging Masak Lemak Cili Api from Negri Sembilan and Oxtail Asam Pedas from Melaka.
Other buffet highlights include Kelantan’s Ayam Percik Putih, Perak’s Udang Masak Kicap Berempah, Terengganu’s Ketam Masak Kerutub and Asam Tempoyak Keladi Daun Kesom from Pahang.
Lai said the menu was created by chefs familiar with these regional dishes.
“We have over 100 dishes on rotation throughout Ramadan.

“Beyond the state specialities, there is also Ayam Geprek, included because it is a favourite among younger diners.”
It is different from usual fried chicken, he said, because “we boil it with herbs before frying”.
The result is flavourful, tender and crispy chicken, which goes well with a dollop of spicy sambal and nasi lemak.
The Sup Daging Gearbox is one of the standout offerings with a bolder taste, thanks to its custom spice blend.
“The spices we use are different and more robust,” said Lai.
Whole Roast Lamb Kuzi is one of the anchors of the spread and available daily.
Lai said the lamb this year has a more Malaysian flavour.
“We marinate the meat overnight before baking it for over two hours.
“It’s something diners expect at buka puasa.”
Other mains include smoky-glazed beef brisket, herb-crusted roasted lamb with beef jus and lamb shepherd’s pie.
Seafood is also part of the spread, with fresh pieces on ice, while fish highlights include Pan-seared Fish Fillet with Lemon Dill Sauce and Honey Cajun Glazed Butter Fish.

The dessert selection includes traditional Malay kuih, Sago Gula Melaka, pandan-flavoured tiramisu and chocolate mousse.
There are also live ghazal performances.
The buffet is offered daily until March 20, 6.30pm to 10pm, priced at RM178nett per adult and RM89nett per child.
Private iftar packages are offered from RM183.60nett per person.
