Ancient science of Vasthu Sastra for harmony in the home

Restoring balance: Selva showing how to use a pyramid to attract healing energy at the Star Property Fair 2014 in Kuala Lumpur.

WHEN renting or purchasing a new or second-hand house or apartment, property buyers should apply the ancient Indian science of construction called Vasthu Sastra.

Sunday Star columnist T. Selva said the 5,000-year-old science would ensure home buyers live in harmony and enjoy good health and prosperity.

He said the first thing one should do is to check the direction the house is facing using a magnetic compass.

“The favourable directions are north, south, east, west, south-east, north-west and north-east.

“The only direction the main door must not be placed is in the south-west which will invite unwanted expenditure and give rise to health issues,” said Selva.

He will be presenting two talks at the Star Property Fair at Sunway Convention Centre in Seberang Jaya this weekend.

He said once buyers had determined the best entry, they should identify the quadrants of the kitchen, master bedroom, children’s bedroom, guest room, staircase, toilet and bathroom.

“Every activity in a house has a specific space based on the five elements of ether, fire, water, earth and air.

“When the bedroom, kitchen, prayer room and other amenities are in their correct quadrants, dwellers will enjoy peaceful living and balanced surroundings,” said Selva, the author of the ‘Vasthu Guide Book’.

He said every dweller inevitably experienced stress every day at work and returning to a home that was not in tune with the environment could only add to the stress.

“Vasthu, which is the science of building, essentially helps balance the man-made environment with the natural.

“It can be successfully applied in any space, enclosed or open, and it is highly recommended that a dweller applies it at home as well as at work if possible so that both places are in balance and in peace,” he said.

Selva said he would also be talking on the power of pyramids and how they could be used to attract positive energy and neutralise negative chi (energy).

He said one of its main functions of the pyramid was to remove or recycle stagnated and negative energy.

“Pyramids can be easily used for healing because they have the power to restore body, mind and spirit balance,” he said.

Selva’s talks will cover how to choose an auspicious home following Vasthu Sastra tips and wooing subtle energy into a house using pyramids.

His talks will be held at the Sunway Convention Centre, Seberang Jaya, from 3.30pm to 4.30pm on Saturday and 12.30pm to 1.30pm on Sunday. Admission is free.
