PEKAN: A three-year-old boy is suffering from heart-related ailment from birth and need to undergo an operation to correct his situation.
Mohamad Nazmi Haziq Mazlan gets tired easily and his face will often turned blue because of lack of oxygen.
His mother Khamsiah Omar, 45, said her youngest son had gone for his first operation when he was 40 days old to widen the opening on his valve.
“Doctors have already informed us then that my son needed to go for a second operation when he is older.
“In April 2013, Mohamad Nazmi did a corrective surgery on his nose and mouth to correct some birth defects,” she said, adding that the operation was paid for using public donations and personal savings.
Khamsiah said they needed to raise some RM35,000 for the latest operation at the National Heart Institute.
She said her husband Mazlan Zakaria, 46, worked as an express bus driver to support the family.
“Due to Mohamad Nazmi’s unstable and weakly condition, my husband often took emergency leave to bring him to the hospital for check-up and treatment.
“This has affected his income in addition to having to support three other school-going children,” Khamsiah said, adding that she took up part-time job as a helper for a catering company.
She hoped that members of the public can assist the family so that Mohamad Nazmi can lead a normal life like other children.
