Selangor International Ride (SIR) at Cyber Valley, Cyberjaya, Selangor, attracted 1,000 local and international cyclists from countries such as Singapore, Germany and Brazil.
The third edition of the cycling event, organised by Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS), featured a new concept with the introduction of a “fellowship ride”, marking a departure from the competitive racing format used in the previous two editions in 2023 and 2024.
The new approach aimed to strengthen ties among strategic partners, local communities and the public, Bernama reported.
Cyber Valley Development general manager Mohd Shahrol Md Sharif said although SIR did not adopt a racing concept, it served as a platform for both local and international participants to test their abilities, showcase their skills and share cycling experiences.
Starting from the PKNS Cyber Valley sales gallery, the participants were flagged off at 7.30am by Tengku Orang Kaya Maha Bijaya Sepang Tengku Datuk Dr Jamaluddin Tengku Mahmud Shah Al Haj.
The event featured the fellowship ride covering a distance of 88km and a 25km fun ride.
“The 88km ride took participants through Cyberjaya, Sepang, Kuala Langat and Dengkil.
“PKNS chief executive officer Datuk Mahmud Abbas also joined the ride,” Mohd Shahrol said at a press conference.
Also present were Bernam Jaya development unit senior project manager and SIR chairman Mohd Iswardy Mohamad Yunos, as well as vice-chairman Fadli Mohd Ariff who is also PKNS sales and marketing general manager.
According to Mohd Iswardy, participants ranged in age from 12 to 77 years old, with 40% of them between 35 and 45.
“If we continue to receive support from the state government, our strategic partners and sponsors, we plan to make this an annual event and include it in the Selangor tourism calendar,” he said.
The event received support from Worldwide Holdings Bhd, Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd, Koperasi PKNS and Kumpulan Hartanah Selangor Bhd, as well as government agencies such as Sepang Municipal Council, Kuala Langat Municipal Council, the police and Cyberjaya Hospital.
Participants also had the opportunity to win prizes through lucky draws that included a motorcycle as the main prize.
