RUNS have the ability to bring communities together, Klang mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain says.

Speaking at the inaugural Klang Royal City Marathon (KRCM) 2025, he said such events broke down barriers to interaction.

“They create a powerful sense of togetherness that benefits both participants and the wider community long after the event is over,” he said.

The mayor was one of the 5km runners as KRCM 2025 kicked off from Bandar Bukit Raja Town Park.

The event themed “Run Together Towards A Sustainable City”, in conjunction with Klang Royal City Council’s (MBDK) Car-Free Day, saw more than 5,000 people taking part in various distances, including the full marathon which linked up with the West Coast Expressway.

Other distances are half marathon; a hybrid category recording both virtual and on-the-day runs; and 3km Kasih Fun Walk for children and people with disabilities.

Abd Hamid said, “Creating an inclusive environment allows individuals from diverse communities to feel valued, and encourages them to contribute their skills.”

The event, aside from promoting fitness for Klang folk, also transformed the city into a hub of activity, boosting local businesses and community spirit, the mayor added.
