The ‘Larian Wira’ fundraiser in Putrajaya, held at night for the first time, includes a 5km fun run.
SOME 10,000 participants gathered at Dataran Wawasan in Putrajaya for Larian Wira 2025 – Night Run, organised by the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT).
Themed Demi Wira Kami, the run was a tribute to the sacrifices of Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) personnel and aimed to foster patriotism among Malaysians.
Now in its third edition, the event was held at night for the first time and featured three distance categories – 5km fun run, 10km and 21.1km half marathon.
This year’s 5km Fun Run included 22 special needs children from The Incredible Warrior Club.
A key focus of the night was the “Tabung Pahlawan” fundraising campaign led by the Veterans’ Affairs Department (JHEV).
Funds collected will go towards supporting MAF veterans who are critically ill, physically challenged or elderly and living alone.
LTAT chairman Jen (Rtd) Tan Sri Azizan Ariffin said the run was a symbol of unity and gratitude towards armed forces personnel.
“These are our true national heroes – serving to ensure the country’s peace and sovereignty remain intact,” he said.
“This year, LTAT is honoured to collaborate with JHEV in further amplifying awareness of Tabung Pahlawan,” he added.
LTAT chief executive Mohammad Ashraf Md Radzi said the strong turnout reflected public support for the Armed Forces.
“This event not only promotes a healthy lifestyle but also strengthens the bond between the people and those who serve to protect us,” he said.
He added that LTAT was committed to making the run a meaningful platform to reinforce ties between the public and the MAF while nurturing national pride.
The evening also featured a zumba workout session by the Badan Kesenian Tentera Udara, a haka performance by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s reserve officer training unit and a drumline show by the Armed Forces.
Tuanku Mizan Armed Forces Hospital offered rehabilitation services to the public while the MAF held a military exhibition.
