Alarm bells should be ringing at Old Trafford

IF the alarm bells are not ringing at Old Trafford, they should be.This once vaunted club meekly slipped into 14th place in the Premiership after their Boxing Day humiliation at the hands of Wolves.

When one considers that this came just days after Bournemouth whipped them 3-0 at Old Trafford, Red Devil fans and the hierarchy there must be concerned about Ruben Amorim.

The Portuguese head coach arrived in Manchester to much fanfare but has found out just how difficult life can be in England’s Premier League.

And what appears really worrying is that he now says he needs “more time” to coach his players.

After the Boxing Day defeat, Amorim also said that his players should adopt a “survival” mentality in their game.

That is something fans could agree with, given that if they don’t, the players will find themselves finishing way down the bottom half of the standings or facing relegation.

And as absurd as that may sound, this could come to pass. The fixture against Newcastle tomorrow will give more insight into just how good Amorim is.

At the moment, things are not looking too good for the coach or the club’s suffering fan base. — By SHAUN ORANGE
