SWIMMERS in Sibu’s Bukit Lima Swimming Pool will no longer face interruptions from bad weather now that a roof over the facility is almost complete.

Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng said the roof construction was going smoothly.

“According to the project manager supervising the engineering works, building progress has reached 70%.

“I understand that the roof is expected to be completed by the end of September, if all goes well,” he said while inspecting the project site.

Work on the roof began on Nov 25 last year, said Chieng.

“This public swimming pool is often used to hold competitions.

“Bad weather often affects athletes’ training and causes competitions to be interrupted,” he said, adding that local swimmers had submitted the application for a roof over the pool.

Chieng also reminded the public that the pool was closed for the duration of the works.

In a previous news report, Sibu Municipal Council deputy chairman Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley said the project cost more than RM2.9mil.

According to him, the project is funded and implemented by the Sarawak Sports Corporation.

The other public swimming pool in Sibu is along Jalan Delta.
