Geographical proximity allows Malaysia and Indonesia to have strong tourism ties, as travellers from each nation are able to visit the other with ease.
Last year alone, 4.3 million travellers from Indonesia visited Malaysia, showing a 2.9% increase compared to 2024. Medical tourism is a strong contributor, aside from business and leisure travels. Malaysia’s established medical facilities and specialist services are among the appeal for health tourists.
For Malaysians, Indonesia continues to be a popular holiday destination, particularly for its island attractions like Bali and Batam.
Recognising this, Batik Air is set to further strengthen the two countries’ connectivity with the launch of two new routes next month.
“Bali and Batam are both important destinations for Malaysian travellers, while Malaysia remains a significant market for Indonesian visitors,” Batik Air CEO Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy said in a press statement. “These new routes allow Batik Air to build on that demand and strengthen its international footprint from Subang and Penang.”
Starting from Oct 20, travelling to Bali will be made even easier for Malaysians who prefer flying out from the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang, Selangor.
Batik Air will operate four Subang-Bali direct flights weekly, complementing the existing 35 weekly flights from Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1.
Penang, meanwhile, will soon have direct service to Batam.
Batik Air will commence the Penang-Batam route on Oct 18. It will operate three times weekly, complementing the airline’s existing KLIA-Batam seven times weekly flights.
