Animal prints have been a steady crowd favourite ever since it had its revival on the fashion runways.

From serpentine patterns to feline spots, the design choice is celebrated as a new neutral when worn in naturally occurring colours.

To take that idea one step further, consider adding a textural layer to the formula. The easiest place to start? Footwear.

Not only does it require less of a commitment, but it also allows you to dip your toes into bolder dressing.

What makes these extra special is that subtle glint it gives when the material catches the light.

Not quite vinyl, yet not quite flat, the short-pile quality gives the shoes a lush feel that the run-of-the-mill material can’t achieve.

Additionally, you can also rock these kicks on different occasions, injecting just the right amount of intrigue into the ensemble without going over the top.

For a timeless feel, go for a classic silhouette. Ballet flats with minimal metallic adornments should do the trick.

With a slight heel, the Sam Edelman Michaela Mary Jane flats are a great place to start. The popular style has taken on many forms and trends, and this case is no exception.

Designed with a soft leather lining, the dyed Brahma hair upper features a striking zebra print, a rare pattern to spot in the current shoe market.

But if you’re looking for something more demure and subtle, consider a deer print. As opposed to the zebra print, you may find this pattern to be a lot more casual and therefore easier to style.

For its latest collection, Elle Shoes has included the Sienna flats, which include a deer print option. Crafted out of premium leather, these are made for comfortable, all-day wear.

These also come in a monochrome espresso shade – ideal for those who want to give this sleek style a try, sans print.

Finally, Saoi introduces a couple of mules that come in a faux pony hair texture.

With a pop of colour for the insoles – baby blue for the zebra-printed option and maroon for the leopard print – each step is punctuated with a bright note.
