A royal honour

SWISS Watch has just added a regally plush feather in its hat.

The luxury watch and jewellery retailer received recognition from Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who has conferred upon it a Royal Warrant.

It is a prestigious accolade granted to the business for excellence as a “Purveyor of Fine Watches and Jewellery to the Royal Household.”

This comes at a significant moment for the Malaysian retailer as it turns a quarter-century-old.

The distinguished achievement was announced at Nobu Kuala Lumpur, in the presence of the Selangor Ruler.

Valiram executive director Datuk Ashvin Valiram says the recognition is a momentous milestone in Swiss Watch’s ongoing journey in celebrating fine watchmaking.

“No one dreamt when Swiss Watch was born at Penang International Airport that we would be here today to celebrate our silver jubilee, and at the same time being bestowed the royal warrant.”

The store that opened in 2001 was 400sq ft.

They were met with a lot of scepticism.

“Boy did we prove them wrong. We always love to doubt the doubters,” Ashvin quips.

“Today we have over 45 retail stores in the region, across both our Swiss Watch multi-brand and our mono-brand boutiques.”

He also credits the staff for the success.

“Our people have been instrumental in our growth and shaping Swiss Watch into a leading watch retailer in the region – we would not have come this far without their continuous contributions.

“We might’ve had 10 or 12 staff in 2001.

“I want to extend special thanks to our Swiss Watch and Valiram teams who have worked tirelessly, persevered and conquered. Well done, people!” says Ashvin.

“Today would also not have been possible without the support of all our watch and jewellery partners, starting off with a small coterie of brands 25 years ago.

“We are 100% Malaysian-owned, Malaysian-born and operated,” he concludes.

The Royal Warrant is granted for use in all Swiss Watch stores.

As part of the celebration, the retailer also held a mini showcase at the luncheon venue -- watches from the brands in its stable as well as a timeline of the company’s history.

To mark its silver jubilee, Swiss Watch plans to hold a year-long series of curated campaigns and signature events to celebrate enduring partnerships and a shared passion for fine watchmaking.

Swiss Watch is part of the Valiram Group, which encompasses all facets of retail with over 600 stores in nine

countries across Southeast Asia and the Oceania region. Its portfolio consists of internationally renowned brands such as Chloe, Michael Kors, Steve Madden, Tory Burch, Rolex, Bath & Body Works, and Victoria’s Secret.
