Celebrity Style: Sabrina Carpenter is quickly becoming a fashion icon

Sabrina Carpenter is now among the world’s biggest pop sensations. Her celebrity status has quickly attracted the attention of designers too.

The 25-year-old singer-songwriter appeared in a Versace eyewear campaign recently – of which Donatella Versace herself shared on Instagram with the caption, “I love you so much”.

In May, Carpenter was made a Marc Jacobs girl. The promotional visuals showed her posing with the brand’s Sack Bag (a cult favourite among the fashion crowd).

At the Met Gala that same month, she turned heads wearing a Cinderella-esque Oscar De La Renta design.

Her fashion week appearances at this year’s menswear shows included daring looks (a sultry cut-out gown at Loewe), as well as flirty and fun getups (a blazer minidress for Louis Vuitton).

Carpenter even walked the Vogue World runway in June. She was dressed in a custom swimsuit- inspired outfit by Jacquemus.

Her style is probably best described as flirty with a hint of old Hollywood glamour – depending on the occasion.

As a Gen Z icon, she also loves to mix and match to create her own unique day-to-day style.

You can spot her in everything from crop tops, oversized sweaters, chunky footwear, corsets, high- waisted jeans and more. She is like a walking Pinterest board for ideas about eclectic dressing.

Carpenter’s fashion influence is so formidable that TikTok users even coined a name for her platform boots. The footwear style is now known as “Sabrina Carpenter shoes”.

Vogue Business reported that when she was featured at Vogue World, the moment drove US$9.6mil (approximately RM42.5mil) in media impact value, per Launchmetrics.

She didn’t even post it on her own socials. An Instagram reel of her walk uploaded by the publication hit over a million views.

Carpenter first rose to prominence in 2013 as a Disney Channel actress, after which she dived into the world of music.

Early this year, her song, Espresso, became a big hit. It topped several music charts and went on to win an MTV Video Music Award for "Song Of The Year" in September.

She also headlined Coachella, performed on the season finale of Saturday Night Live, and opened Taylor Swift’s Eras shows.

Carpenter kicked off her Short N Sweet Tour in September, where she wore custom designs by fashion labels Victoria’s Secret, Patou and Ludovic De Saint Sernin.

The fast-rising fashion icon sees her style as highly mutable.

“I’ve always had trouble answering this question, because when you’re a young woman, it can change and fluctuate a lot, and you don’t always want to label it,” she said in April, when asked by W magazine about her aesthetic.

“Some days I feel confident in short skirts and tall boots, and other days, I feel more confident in baggy jeans and baggy T-shirts.”

She has always felt that her dressing changes all the time.

“I’m not going to be comfortable in what I’m wearing right now in three to four years. But I have to follow what I feel at that moment,” she was quoted as saying by Interview Magazine in February.
