MUCH has been said about the 2024 Met Gala and the celebrities’ fascinating, jaw-dropping or simply outrageous outfits.
StarChrono zooms in on their wrists to take a closer look at their choice of watches for the annual charity event, themed “Garden of Time” this year and held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in May.
Chris Hemsworth
Australian actor and Met Gala co-chair Chris Hemsworth, who is best known as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, wore a Chopard Alpine Eagle in 18k rose gold featuring a diamond bezel.
The Alpine Eager collection, personally designed by Chopard co-president Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, was inspired by the beauty of the Alps and the power of eagles.
The sporty-chic timepiece befits an aspiring person who strives to outperform and whose vision inspires and elevates.
As the watch is crafted in ethical 18k rose gold, the wearer is innately aware of the importance of environmental issues.
Brooklyn Beckham
Forty-five years after the release of its first sports elegant watch, Piaget relaunches this significant timepiece as Piaget Polo79.
The watch made its debut on a red carpet – or rather, cream carpet with mossy green accents – with Brooklyn Beckham.
He told digital fashion, beauty, and lifestyle publication Who What Wear: “I am a big watch collector and am slowly growing my collection, so I’m honoured that they pulled it out of the archive for me.”
“It completes the look and overall vibe that we were going for,” he added.
Matt Damon
American actor and film producer Matt Damon completed his outfit with a Piaget Andy Warhol watch.
Measuring 45mm by 43mm, the rose gold, cushion-shaped watch is not round, nor is it square or rectangular – but all three at once.
This watch, with a black dial, a stepped case silhouette and black alligator strap, is a re-edited version of the Black Tie watch once owned by Warhol.
This model remains associated with the legendary visual artist to this day.
Eddie Redmayne
Eddie Redmayne, who attended the Met Gala with his wife Hannah Bagshawe, wore the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Shades.
The English actor, who joined Omega as an ambassador in 2015, picked the sandstone version of the collection.
A tribute to Omega’s rich maritime heritage, the 38mm model features a wave-edged design on its back.
The sandstone dial is fashioned from brass, and the timepiece’s rhodium-plated hands and indexes are coated with white Super-LumiNova.
It is powered by Omega’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer calibre 8800.
Jimmy Fallon
TV host, producer and comedian Jimmy Fallon wore an Omega Speedmaster 38mm.
Cased in fully polished 18k Moonshine Gold, this timepiece shines with 52 diamonds on the bezel and a single diamond on the crown.
Featuring a green dial, this watch comes with an 18k Moonshine Gold bracelet with Omega’s patented comfort release adjust system.
The screw-in case-back is stamped with a seahorse medallion.
Jonathan Bailey
Actor and Friend of Omega Jonathan Bailey, who sported a hand-painted metal peony in place of a bowtie and another secret flower on his hip, chose an Omega De Ville Trésor.
The model has a 40mm stainless steel case with a diamond-paved bezel and a black leather strap.
The domed opaline silvery dial includes a date window at 6 o’clock as well as hands and indexes in 18k white gold.
Inside, this De Ville Trésor is powered by the Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8910.
Characterised by its thin and elegant case, the Trésor line was first launched by Omega in 1949.
