Today, a man with a bag may draw a second glance, but it’s usually one of envy.
We’ve seen the rise of metrosexual males (since the mid-90s), tending to their hair, caring for their skin and dressing in ensembles we’d like to slink into as well.
And suddenly, men, metrosexual or not, are carrying bags that we want!
Designs of the man bag or what some would call a murse (short for man purse) are looking more and more unisex, with soft structures, alluring prints and pockets all-around.

Model and actor Jacob Elordi is one man who has quite a collection of murses.
He has frequently been seen in public with bags from designer labels like Burberry, Bottega Veneta, Celine and Fendi.
Most recently the internet was abuzz when he was spotted rocking a 1970s style moustache and get this, with Bottega Veneta’s latest “Andiamo” bag in the crook of his arm while out on a coffee run in Tinseltown.
And, we adore the Gucci sling bag with a Mickey Mouse print all-over owned by rap star ASAP Rocky, which he proudly wore to the Italian label’s Spring/Summer 2020 runway show in Milan.
Closer to home, singer Hael Husaini was recently photographed with Celine’s Le 16 bag, which was previously spotted on Angelina Jolie, Lady Gaga and Blackpink’s Lisa.
On his birthday earlier this year, singer Anuar Zain was gifted the Pua crossbody bag by designer Tom Abang Saufi.
Crafted from vegan leather with a custom-designed ethnic pua motif, the bag features an adjustable strap that can be detached and used as a camera strap or for other purposes.
Fendi has even come up with men’s versions of its coveted Baguette and Peekaboo bags, only that they are larger than the original designs meant for women. But women aren’t complaining as some are known to prefer oversized designs of Fendi’s two coveted carriers.

Dior too has reimagined its iconic Saddle bag, popularised by Sex And The City’s Carrie Bradshaw, with a longer strap for crossbody usage, meant for men but would look trendy on the ladies too.
Part of the Spring/Summer 2023 offering from Ferragamo includes a men’s briefcase that is not the conventional type as it is less-structured and more stylish with matte silver buckles against glossy black patent leather.
Go on, coax your guy into buying a murse or two. The latest ones are so stylish and practical that you might get lucky and he won’t not mind sharing.
What a fantastic way to save money and free up wardrobe space at the same time!
