Goth style would probably never have made a comeback without Jenna Ortega's performance in Wednesday, a show that propelled her to new heights of fame, while also making her one of fashion's most influential personalities.

Followed by tens of millions of people on social networks, and an ambassador for a major luxury brand, Ortega now has the power to make and break the trends of the moment.

All hail the new queen of fashion!

A single social media post from Bella Hadid or Hailey Bieber is enough to spark a trend in the fashion and beauty sectors. This has been seen in recent months with "glazed donut nails" and "straight brows", both of which we owe to these two star models, whose style is now constantly scrutinised.

However, they are no longer the only ones – along with Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and Chiara Ferragni – to hold sway over the fashion sphere.

The global fashion search engine Stylight took a closer look at the new faces in the industry, highlighting those whose popularity has continued to grow over the past few months. And on this front, Jenna Ortega stands out in particular, now strongly influencing trends, as well as the fashion buying behaviour of shoppers at large.

Jenna Ortega, style queen

American actress Ortega was already on the scene long before the hit series Wednesday, but there's no denying that the horror comedy show propelled her to new heights of fame in just a few days.

This made her gothic style – or at least that of her character in the show – a go-to look for younger generations to try out.

As a result, the young star – who started her career at the age of 10 – is now followed by more than 40 million people on Instagram and by more than 21 million on TikTok, where her outfits, beauty routines, and hairstyles regularly give rise to new inspirations.

This trendsetting tendency was seen back in January, for example, with the craze for the chopped bob, a messy bob that became a must-have after the star posted a simple photo of herself rocking the look on Instagram.

And that's not all, as the gothcore style, which she is now directly associated with, resulted in no less than 2,500 Google searches in March, and has more than 30 million views on TikTok.

More generally, the hashtag #JennaOrtega has nearly 27 billion views on the Chinese social network, with a host of videos celebrating her style, her makeup, or her hair inspirations.

It's no wonder that the actress recently became an ambassador for the Gris Dior fragrance by Christian Dior.

All eyes on Jennifer Coolidge

Meanwhile, Jennifer Coolidge is known for her wry sense of humor, but that's not her only asset.

While the American actress clearly shines on screen, since her performance in the show The White Lotus has won her an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and a Critics' Choice Award, she also stands out for her unique and inimitable style that now has many fans and followers.

And she certainly doesn't lack audacity, with a particular taste for prints, oversized accessories and jewellery, as well as glamorous and vintage creations, which have all been the subject of keen interest on social networks in recent months.

It's probably no coincidence that the sheath dress category has seen a 164% increase in searches since the beginning of the year on Stylight's international platforms, while search interest in animal prints has increased by 59%.

In addition, the hashtag #JenniferCoolidge already has more than 700 million views on TikTok, reflecting the younger generation's taste for the 60-year-old's style.

All of which is further evidence that women in the 50-plus age group are slowly but surely reclaiming power in fashion, breaking out of the boxes to which they have long been confined by certain norms and expectations.

Other rising fashion trendsetters include Amelia Gray Hamlin, the daughter of the actress Lisa Rinna and the actor Harry Hamlin, who has risen to become a model with influential style in the fashion world.

Then there are the German twins Lisa and Lena Mantler, followed by nearly 20 million people on Instagram, and the renowned fashion editor and stylist Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, who was one of the guest judges on the second season of the reality show Next In Fashion.

On the men's side, it is the style of the Spanish soccer player Hector Bellerín that's currently the focus of much attention. The top sportsman is associated in particular with the "blokecore" aesthetic that has proved a viral hit this year (+1.306% on Google in 2023). – AFP Relaxnews
