The “coconut girl” style, which came back into fashion last summer, is still making waves this year with its exotic prints, shell jewellery and crochet accessories.
It’s a micro-trend that embraces a spirit of fun and carelessness, inspired by the style of Californian surfers.
The message? Time to let go of our worries and approach the vacations with a laidback, spontaneous attitude.

Just like back in the summer of 2021, it’s the “coconut girl” wardrobe that is getting all the likes on social networks at the beginning of this summer, and it’s expected to be seen on beaches everywhere when vacations get underway.
Women are set to leave overly sophisticated clothing, as well as overly “comfy” clothing at home, to take to the hot sand catwalk in a kind of in-between style that draws on nostalgia, beachwear, and fun, with strong leanings towards the aesthetics of the 2000s.
On an abandoned beach
Imagine the setting: a vast sand beach under a setting sun, a campfire, and some guitar music.
The “coconut girl” doesn’t need much more of a setting to show her coolest and most colourful summer outfits.
While a staple in her wardrobe is simple, loose and flowy pants with a crochet crop-top, she combines these elements with the most vibrant colours of her wardrobe, or even with tropical flower patterns that will make a statement.
Her secret formula is her cool attitude, complemented with discreet makeup and long hair with golden highlights.
A cliche? Definitely, but one that evokes a carefree Californian summer.

This micro-trend, which has been gaining a lot of followers on social networks since last year, has accumulated no less than 550 million views on TikTok, making it “the” fashion statement of the summer.
On the related videos, there are more exotic flowers than we know what to do with – the Hawaiian shirt is set to strike again – flashy, even fluorescent, coloured crop-tops, bras and dresses made of colourful crochet, shorts and overalls, and hats, a must-have for several seasons, accessorised or not with chains, bracelets, and earrings in the shape of all kinds of shells.
As for shoes, colourful platforms are set to rule but espadrilles, flip-flops, and other sandals laced up around the calf will also be present. – AFP Relaxnews
