Should you adopt one dog or two?

Some dogs are only dogs. They don’t get along with other dogs and want to be the only furry in the house.

However, most dogs are social. They don’t do well when they’re alone.

If you work or travel often, having just one dog can make them lonely. A sad dog isn’t just unhappy; they are more likely to bark, whine and chew things they shouldn't.

Dogs love people, but we can't always give them the attention they need. Like staring at the street for hours at a time. Or wrestling on the rug to while away a rainy afternoon.

Surprisingly, training can be easier with two dogs. They often learn from each other. If you teach one dog to sit, the other might learn it faster by watching their friend.

Finally, as there are so many dogs sitting in shelters, it’s an act of goodwill to take in two.

If you can, think about adopting two littermates or a pair of bonded dogs from the shelter. This way, your pets can have the furry companionship they understand.
