Animal shelters are always shorthanded and most don’t have enough staff or funds to maintain up-to date websites. The smaller ones are on Facebook and Instagram. If you’re shopping, check both.

Sadly, scammers will take out social media ads and they can look super authentic. To be certain you’re looking at the real deal, go to the charity social media homepage, look for several years of posts and only click through there.

Want to donate? Again, shelters advertise their bank details but scammers will try and hijack their logos and divert funds to themselves.To be safe, write down the bank details and give the shelter a phone call to confirm you’re on the right page.
