War on bird flu

THE World Health Organisation (WHO) has called for an all-out war against avian influenza to avoid a pandemic and warned Asia-Pacific countries to brace for the threat of emerging diseases. 

“While we still have a window of opportunity, we must do everything to avert an influenza pandemic as we simultaneously prepare for a worse-case scenario,” said Shigeru Omi, WHO’s regional director for the Western Pacific.
