Teachers play a vital role in shaping young minds. They should be given the respect they deserve for educating and inspiring our young, and that’s why we have a day to honour them. Teachers Day was celebrated last Sunday on May 16. Here’s what Starchild readers had to say on the topic.

Debria Preethi Jeyarajah, 10, her mathematics teacher Puan Noor very much because she explains the subject in a simple manner. "If I don’t understand, she explains it to me over and over again until I understand it well. Puan Noor’s methods are simple and easy to understand. She also teaches us how to do the working step by step correctly."

Six-year-old Bethany Wang Qi Syuen wishes Happy Teachers Day to all the selfless teachers out there. “My kindergarten teacher – Teacher Irene, is a stern yet patient teacher. She plays an important role in helping me to recognise words and from there, I have started to read independently.”

Young sibling Asher Wang Qi Chuen, three, writes: “This Teacher’s Day, I would like to thank my Sunday School teachers for teaching me precious lessons from the bible. Happy Teachers Day to you, dear teachers!”
Seven-year-old Erica Lee feels lucky to have kindergarten teachers who make learning so much fun. “To Abang Jaimi and all my Hilltop kindergarten teachers, thanks for all of the extraordinary things you do! Thank you, my loving teachers.”

Chloe Leong Xizhen, eight, says: “My favourite teacher teaches me Science, Maths, Moral, Chinese, Art and Music. She is a very nice teacher.”
“I have many teachers in school. Ms Loh has been my Mandarin teacher since I was two years old. I’ve never liked Mandarin but thanks to her patience and guidance, I have grown to love this language. Thank you, Ms Loh. I love you, ” says Lim Sheng Hao, eight.

Jayden Hong Gobinathan, eight, writes: “My favourite teacher is Ms Loh. She has short hair and wears spectacles. She’s a wonderful Mandarin teacher. She’s caring and shares yummy food with me during lessons. Thank you Ms Loh for everything.”

Jodie Tan Li Juen, 11, feels grateful to have many teachers to guide and support her. “I want to thank them and wish them a Happy Teacher’s Day.”
Jayden Tan Li Sheng, eight, wants to thank Teacher Cheow Le Yi, for patiently teaching him. “She is my favourite teacher. Thank you for teaching me Chinese, Mathematics, Science and Moral.”
“My favourite teacher is Teacher Wong. She teaches me Bahasa Cina and always guides me in reading, writing and comprehension. She is also my class teacher in SJK (C) Chong Hua. I am so happy to have her in my school, ” says six-year-old Aaron Heng Zeng Yong.

Five-year-old Claire Yap Jyn Wei thinks highly of Cikgu Hanis. “She teaches me Mathematics, English, Art and Science. I like her because she is nice, and we get to dance to fun songs during class with my friends.”

Older sibling Sophie Yap Jyn Qing, eight, writes: “My teacher teaches Mathematics in a fun way, hence it made me enjoy learning it. I also enjoy learning English, and Art in school.”
“Pn Malvinder is a dedicated and hardworking teacher. She is more than a teacher. She is like a mother to us. When we have a problem, we look for her for guidance. She never hesitates to assist us. I would like to wish all teachers Happy Teachers Day, ” says Lakshmita Vigneswaran, 11.
