Malaysian actress Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh is returning to Chinese-language cinema with It's My Time, her first live-action China film since winning the Oscar for Best Actress in 2023.

The 63-year-old has kept busy with major Hollywood productions since her historic Academy Award win, appearing in both film and television. She also has several high-profile projects in the pipeline, including the science-fiction series Blade Runner 2099 and future Avatar films.

Now, Yeoh is taking on a different kind of role in It's My Time, which opens on July 23. She stars opposite Chinese actor Liu Haoran in the heartfelt drama inspired by true events.

The film follows 70-year-old Zhao Yanhong (Yeoh), a strong-willed and rebellious resident at a nursing home who often stirs up trouble with her outspoken personality.

Her life takes an unexpected turn when she befriends a down-on-his-luck former Magic Cube world champion (Liu). The unlikely friendship soon reveals Yanhong's remarkable talent for solving the puzzle, prompting the pair to train together for a Magic Cube competition.

Directed by Bai Xue (The Crossing), It's My Time was showcased at the 28th Shanghai International Film Festival.
