Christopher Nolan will travel to Mumbai this July for the India premiere of his upcoming film ‘The Odyssey’. The Oscar winning director will be joined by lead actors Matt Damon and Tom Holland. Producer Emma Thomas, who is also an Academy Award winner, will attend as well.

This marks the first time a Christopher Nolan film will get a premiere in India.

Mumbai joins global premiere tour

Universal Pictures International has placed Mumbai on the official list of cities hosting The Odyssey's premiere events. The other stops on this tour are London, Paris and New York. Mumbai now stands alongside these major film capitals for the rollout of Nolan’s new project.

The India premiere will take place at PVR Icon IMAX, Phoenix Palladium in Mumbai. This venue has already drawn attention for its ticket prices, with premium recliner seats selling at three thousand three hundred rupees during advance booking.

About The Odyssey

The Odyssey is based on Homer’s ancient Greek epic poem. Story follows Odysseus, King of Ithaca, as he tries to return home after fall of Troy. The journey is long and filled with danger.

Damon plays lead role of Odysseus. Holland plays his son, Telemachus. Hathaway plays Penelope, Odysseus’ wife. The cast also includes Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Samantha Morton, Zendaya and Charlize Theron.

A technical milestone

The Odyssey holds a unique place in film history. It is the first feature film ever shot entirely using IMAX cameras. Nolan reportedly worked toward this goal for almost 20 years.

The filming took place across multiple international locations. This included stretches filmed on the open ocean. Reports indicate the production used over two million feet of film across 91 days of shooting.

The technical achievement has been a major talking point in the film’s marketing. Industry voices have called it a landmark moment for large format cinema. – The Statesman/ANN
