An American influencer known for her art commentary was found dead in a hotel room after travelling to Brazil for cosmetic surgery, according to reports.
Hilde Lynn Helphenstein, who posts on Instagram under the username @JerryGogosian, was discovered dead over the weekend inside her room at the Rosewood hotel, Brazilian news outlet G1 Globo reported, citing local authorities.
A man claiming to be her plastic surgeon showed up there on May 31, telling staff he was unable to get in touch with her.
Management in turn called an ambulance, and first responders pronounced Helphenstein dead on the scene. According to Art Review, authorities discovered prescription drugs in her room, prompting them to label her death as suspicious.
She was 40 years old.
In a statement to G1, the Rosewood hotel said it was cooperating with the probe, adding that it is “promptly providing all requested information to assist in the investigation of the facts.”
Few other details have been provided about her death, which occurred some three weeks after Helphenstein arrived in Brazil.
She shared her final post to Instagram on May 29, encouraging her 154,000 followers to “let the rich woman inside of you fly.”
“I think it’s healthy,” she said in the clip. “So what I encourage you to do is just hire a makeup artist, get your hair done, get yourself a beautiful shawl, preferably something cashmere or woven in Peru, something nice.”
In her bio, Helphenstein describes herself as “your BFF in the art world.” – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service
