Popular Hong Kong singer Hacken Lee had fans in stitches after pulling off a cheeky stunt during his recent concert in the United States.
On Feb 21, the 58-year-old took his solo tour to California, delivering a crowd-pleasing set packed with his greatest hits.
At one point, enthusiastic fans began tossing ang pow packets onto the stage as a gesture of love and good fortune during the Chinese New Year season.
But Lee appeared more than ready for the moment as he whipped out a fishing net and gleefully collected the red packets, sending audiences into fits of laughter.
Videos posted online captured the House Of Cards hitmaker thanking fans in Cantonese and repeatedly bowing in appreciation as he gathered each batch of red packets with his net.
The clips quickly went viral on social media, with many netizens delighting in his quirky antics.
“He should bring one with an adjustable rod next time, so it can go further,” one fan joked.
Another wrote: “I’m laughing so hard right now. This is the first time I’m seeing someone carry a fishing net while performing.”
“Others receive gifts with their hands and here comes Hacken using a fishing net … Efficient and adorable,” commented a third.
According to reports, it’s common for fans in Cantonese-speaking regions – especially Hong Kong – to present idols with ang pow packets at concerts or public events.
Many of these packets usually contain only small amounts of money, or are even empty, as they are given more as symbols of good luck than actual gifts.
