Hong Kong actress Jessica Hsuan has opened up about her love life, reflecting on the missteps and disappointments she faced in past relationships.
In a recent interview on a web show, the 55-year-old shared that she was once in a relationship with a man she deeply loved, but the romance ended due to the involvement of a third party.
"He was still attached to his ex-girlfriend, so when she returned, we both decided to part ways," she said.
As if that weren't enough, Hsuan revealed that she had once unknowingly become the third party in someone else's relationship.
"I was very young then. One day, I found out that I was actually a third party.
"My university classmate told me the guy already had a girlfriend. It was so sudden," she said, adding that she only had herself to blame for being so naive.
The Detective Investigations Files IV star admitted that after being deceived, she has become much more guarded around men.
"I became really frightened and genuinely started not to trust men anymore.
"When I had new boyfriends later on, I paid close attention to their behaviour. If they did anything that felt off to me, I would immediately pull back.
"Sometimes it's just a small action, but you can sense that something isn't quite right," she said.
Despite the unpleasant experiences, Hsuan hasn't lost faith in love and still believes there's someone out there who's truly destined for her.
For the record, Hsuan previously dated singer-actor Dicky Cheung after growing close through several collaborations, though their relationship lasted only two years.
She went on to have three other relationships, but none of them endured.
In the interview, Hsuan noted that many of her friends feel she's very principled at work but completely different when it comes to relationships.
"Many things can change," she said, before continuing, "When you like someone, many things are no longer that important. They can all change."
