Popular Hong Kong actor Kenneth Ma was unable to hold back his tears while talking about his late father on the red carpet at the TVB Anniversary Awards on Jan 4.

In an interview with Hong Kong media, the 51-year-old grew emotional as he revealed that his father – who was a former engineer – passed away in his sleep due to old age.

"My older friends told me that passing away in your sleep is a blessing. However, I can't help but wonder whether I could’ve spent more time with him," he said.

Ma, who's married to fellow TVB star Roxanne Tong, shared that his father often worried about his hectic career, though the actor would reassure him that he felt no pressure.

"He knew I loved him, but I wish I had spent more time with him. He never pressured me to have children, but I think he would've been happy to see it. I just hope he's watching over me from above," he said.

Ma laid his father to rest on Dec 11, holding a modest funeral attended by family and close friends.

He returned to work two days later and was seen filming his new drama, The Airport Diary.

In the recent interview, Ma said he has already finished shooting his scenes for the aforementioned drama and is now focusing on handling family matters.

When asked if he plans to take his mother on a holiday soon, Ma replied: "I want to arrange a family trip, but I'll plan that later. There are still many unresolved matters."
