Prince William and Harry’s aunt, the eldest sister of their late mother Princess Diana, is “on the mend” amid a hospitalisation for “a really bad fall” from her horse last month.
Lady Sarah McCorquodale, 70, is “still riding” and “had a really bad fall last month and has been in hospital for a long time,” brother Charles Spencer said on recent episode of the Rosebud With Gyles Brandreth podcast.
The incident didn’t break her spirit though, with 61-year-old Spencer believing his sister to have been “quite a handful as a patient, because the lead doctor said to my brother-in-law, ‘She’s quite a character, isn’t she?'”
A friend of Lady Sarah’s told People that she’s “on the mend.”
Despite the royal family feud that’s left William, 43, and 41-year-old Harry at odds in recent years, both of Diana’s sisters – Lady Sarah and 68-year-old Lady Jane Fellowes – are on good terms with the princes, according to the outlet.
Both aunts were present when Harry and Meghan Markle’s son Prince Archie was christened in 2019.
Two years later, following the couple’s controversial split from senior royal duties as they decamped to Markle’s native California, Harry returned home for the unveiling of a 60th birthday tribute statue for Diana.
The memorial event, which was announced in 2017, was also attended by William, Lady Sarah, Lady Jane and Charles Spencer.
The 36-year-old People’s Princess was killed in August 1997 during a car crash in a Parisian tunnel as her vehicle tried to evade paparazzi. Dodi Fayed, to whom Diana had been romantically linked that summer, was also killed in the tragedy.
Speaking on the Rosebud podcast, Spencer also recalled writing his sister’s eulogy, which held the press and paparazzi accountable for her death and left her “the most hunted person of the modern age.” – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service
