Hong Kong actress Charmaine Sheh has opened up about the passing of fellow actor Benz Hui, whom she regarded as a father figure and close confidant.
Hui, who was 76, died on Tuesday (Oct 28) morning due to multiple organ failure caused by cancer. He was hospitalised on Monday in critical condition.
In an interview with Chinese media, Sheh, 50, was seen fighting back tears as she recalled the time spent with him.
The award-winning actress described Hui as a cheerful and positive person who was deeply dedicated to his craft and always knew how to lift everyone’s spirits.
Though heartbroken by his passing, she said she would move on with optimism, just as he would’ve wanted her to.
“I know he’d want us to keep on living happily, just as he lived each day with joy.
“Dad, although I really miss you, I won’t cry anymore. I’ll miss you and will continue to live happily. I’ll look after your family,” she added.
When asked if she was able to visit her “father” before his passing, Sheh answered “yes” but kept details of their conversation private.
For the record, Sheh was initially scheduled to fly to Beijing for work following an event in Macau on Oct 27. However, she changed her plans and returned to Hong Kong to visit Hui instead after learning of his hospitalisation.
Sheh and Hui previously collaborated on TVB projects such as You’re Hired (2009), Line Walker (2014), The Heir To The Throne (2024) and the upcoming drama Themis.
In an earlier interview, Sheh – who lost her real dad at the age of five – shared that she had always longed for a loving father figure like Hui.
She often turned to him for advice on important decisions, including buying property.
For her birthday on May 28, Hui recorded a video message for Sheh, reminding her: “The most important thing is to stay healthy.”
