Retired Hong Kong actress Amy Yip has opened up about her personal life, her fitness secrets and the love she lost.
In a recent appearance on actor Stephen Chan’s YouTube programme, the 59-year-old shared that while her signature voluptuous figure was admired by the public, it was often met with disapproval at home in the past.
“My mum said it would bring bad luck to the family … The Hakka people back then were funny because they thought busty women would bring misfortune,” she recounted with a laugh.
The former Category III star recalled another moment of teasing during her ATV days, when fellow actor Law Lok-lam joked that her figure made her unsuitable for historical dramas.
Despite the comments, Yip became widely praised for her slim waistline, which measures just 22 inches.
When asked about the secret to maintaining her figure, Yip shared that she eats lightly – opting for seafood over red meat – and cooks with little to no seasoning.
She also exercises regularly to stay fit, avoids smoking and drinking and goes to bed as early 6pm or 7pm.
In the interview, Yip also reflected on her longtime relationship with late orthopaedic surgeon Sammy Lui Sek Chiu, who passed away from a heart attack in November 2018.
The pair, who met in 1992, dated for 26 years but never married.
Yip recalled that during a six-month stay in Taiwan, Lui sent her flowers every three days.
She was unable to hold back tears as she delivered a heartfelt message to her late partner, expressing gratitude for loving her unconditionally.
“You’ve accompanied me for 26 years. I was very happy because you were in my life. You loved me the most, worried about me and were always by my side. I love you,” she said.
