Amid tensions with her mother, Malaysian actress Anna Jobling has found a silver lining after receiving a nomination for the Outstanding Asian Star trophy at the Seoul International Drama Awards (SDA), which will take place on Oct 2 in South Korea.
The 25-year-old was recognised for her role in Hai Cinta, Dengarkanlah, playing a woman whose world unravels after learning about her husband’s death on their wedding anniversary.
“I’m surprised and honoured by this nomination. My family, friends and fans have always been a source of inspiration.
“I hope to bring this award home to Malaysia and proudly shine our country's name on the global stage,” she said in a statement.
Anna will be competing with fellow nominees from South Korea, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Singapore, with winners to be chosen via public voting on the Idol Champ app.
Last year, local actress Siti Saleha made Malaysia proud after winning in the same category for her performance in the drama Seofis.
For the record, Anna and her mother Ariz Arop are facing tension in their relationship after Ariz disclosed that Anna had filed an injunction order against her in December 2024.
The order was lifted following discussions between lawyers from both sides, though she remains bound by several other conditions.
Earlier this month, Ariz accused Anna of treating her “like a stray dog” since rising to fame.
She also alleged that a simple argument between them escalated to the point where Anna insulted her and called a lawyer to have her removed from the car.
Despite their differences, both mother and daughter set aside their conflict on Anna’s birthday – with the latter expressing gratitude to her mother for raising her, while Ariz extended a birthday wish to Anna.
