Hong Kong action star Ken Lo has opened up about the passing of his ex-wife, actress Bonnie Lai Suk-yin, who died by suicide at the age of 46 on Dec 26, 2023.

In a recent interview hosted by lyricist Gary Yeung on his online programme, Lo, 66, shared that Lai's death came as a shock to him and their two sons – Jacky, 25, and Jovan, 19.

He also admitted that they struggled to come to terms with her sudden loss, adding: "The three of us have never cried together like we did that day. I had to comfort them. They kept asking me why this happened."

Lo recalled having a phone call with Lai just a week before her death. The two had even made plans to meet for dinner – a memory that now weighs heavily on his heart.

"I've always felt she shouldn't have left like this. She was a kind and beautiful person," he said.

The Drunken Master II (1994) star shared that since Lai's passing, he has made it a point to stay closely connected with his children.

"Sometimes, communicating more is what matters most. We should learn to cherish those around us," he added.

Lai married Lo in 1998 and had two sons together. Their eldest is currently practising physiotherapy in Hong Kong while the younger is studying in the United Kingdom.

The pair divorced in 2006, and a year later, Lai went on to tie the knot with cosmetic surgeon Angus Hui, with whom she had two sons.
